I would like to know if when you rent property e.g. a single bedroom flat in the UK?

and the Estate Agents display in the window of the Estate Agents states “professionals only” what could this mean?

I am a full time carer working with the elderly, would this be considered as a “professional” job?.

Please explain and HONEST answers only.

  1. Politically Correct

A professional is someone who has a qualification so for instance a nurse, doctor or teacher. The reason landlords ask for a professional person is to be sure to get someone whose reputation would be damaged by a poor credit report and who is also likely to have a steady income so someone likely to pay the rent.

If you are employed to work with the elderly, you will probably get approved even if you do not have a specific qualification as you need to to pass a screening check for your job.

What they cannot say is “no-one on the dole” – that is discrimination. What they can say is “professionals only” – that isn’t discrimination but ensures they only have working people.
